Hi, I’m Melanie Chisnall, the writer and coach behind Harmali.

I’ve always had a passion for personal development, but my greatest transformation happened when I started doing inner healing and focusing on spiritual growth.

Through research and my own experiences, I’ve come to understand that inner balance and fulfilment start when we get comfortable with who we are.  I used to feel like I was living in an invisible cage; knowing deep down that I wasn’t being true to myself, but unable to find the keys to get “out.” As it turns out, the answers were inside me all along. And they’re inside you, too.

The story behind Harmali

Harmali means to be “at home with yourself” – it’s derived from the words, “Harmony” and “Mahali” (the Swahili word for ‘place’). So many of us deep thinkers, big feelers and sensitives feel like we don’t belong here. The world doesn’t make much sense to us… and sometimes, we don’t make sense to ourselves.

But the truth is, most of us haven’t really met ourselves. We were never taught to self-regulate or to trust ourselves. We were told who we were. We were conditioned to seek the answers externally; never diving into our own inner wisdom, never connecting to our hearts and bodies, constantly trying to fill an invisible void and mentally beating ourselves up for not trying hard enough.

The Bible says the kingdom of heaven is inside us, and it is. Inner peace is there, all we need to do is be willing to get to know ourselves, instead of numbing, getting distracted or allowing society to dictate who we should be. When you know yourself, you don’t need to pretend, perfect, perform, or prove a thing.

You might be here, because...

You’re not broken.
And you don’t need fixing.

Your heart and body are simply communicating to you that something is out of alignment and needs your attention. Sometimes, we just need a fresh perspective. And sometimes, the difference between staying stuck and moving into the highest version of ourselves, is having someone we trust in our corner.

Knowing yourself is how you take your power back in this world. It involves some unlearning, a lot of honesty, and a growth mindset. This has been my passion for the last decade as a writer, and it’s this inner quest for truth that’s driven my own personal development and spiritual journey.

“Finding your purpose does not have to be about your career. It is about your soul. It is about how you engage in life.”

Breaking the "box"

I grew up very quiet and anxious. I learned to quickly identify what people wanted and felt, and I became a chronic people pleaser – agreeable, overachieving, always the one people came to with problems.

But I’m not that person anymore. I’ve shed many layers and societal conditioning and I no longer fit into a “box” (we aren’t meant to). I’ve come to understand that growth and inner-healing is an ongoing journey that becomes part of our everyday well-being. Here are a few things I learned on my own journey:

A bit more about me...

I’m 41 and married to my first love – it’s been 23 years of peaks and valleys and plateaus. Hiking, deep conversations, dancing, and being around high-vibration people (and animals) fuel my soul.

I value integrity, genuineness, compassion, respect, and humanity.

Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in books, podcasts and interviews, and self-taught courses on positive psychology, spirituality, mindfulness, authentic business and simplifying life. I love learning these and I consider these topics a life-long dedication. I also draw on the following training, experience and courses – all of these help me to support you through your own journey of inner freedom and growth:
